Visiting Fellowship Program
ESMAC aims to encourage mobility and international contacts between the different gait and biomechanical laboratories. Visiting or staying for a longer time in a laboratory encourages progress and further development in our field. ESMAC will assist this interchange by providing support to its members who wish to visit a gait laboratory in another country. Through the visiting fellowship program, awardees can be supported in gaining experience of the clinical and research operations of another laboratory, further specializing in a specific area, or undertaking knowledge-gathering assignments. All new collaborations/suggestions of labs are welcome. Applicants may also make arrangements with a laboratory not currently listed as participating, provided they satisfy the eligibility criteria.
Deadline: 10th of April 2026
- Applicants for the fellowship program must be ESMAC members.
- A member may only receive the fellowship once.
- Applicants need to retain all receipts of expenses and will be reimbursed following the visit up to a maximum of 1000 euro and depending on the length of stay. Eligible expenses include travel, accommodation, and daily living requirements during the stay. As a guideline, the award would typically be 200 EUR plus 200 EUR for each week of the visit (i.e. maximum of 1000 EUR for 1 month). The amount awarded is ultimately at the discretion of the panel and may be more or less than the guideline amount if deemed appropriate. If the visit is from or to a location outside Europe, a maximum of 1000 euros may be awarded for shorter visits. In all cases, the amount awarded is at the discretion of the panel who will take into account the likely costs and ensure that they are reasonable. The number of fellowships awarded each year is determined annually by the Board, in accordance with budget availability.
- Applicants are responsible for contacting the gait lab that they are interested in visiting/collaborating with and ask whether and when a visit can be arranged.
- Applicants should work out the goals and contents of the research visit together with the hosting lab.
- Details of the research visit are up to the applicant and host to arrange. However, we encourage stays of minimum 3 days and maximum 1 month.
- Applications can be submitted by the end of March. The applicant will be notified before the end of April. Awards will also be announced at the ESMAC Annual Meeting.
