Abstract submission guidelines

1. General Information & Deadlines

Abstracts MUST be submitted electronically via the online submission system by the given deadline of 9 April 2026.

Abstracts received via e-mail or received after the deadline will not be accepted and therefore will not be considered for the programme or publication.

Abstracts may be submitted for the following scientific topics.

With each abstract submission, please select group of topics: Population or Content, after that the list of topics appears.

In total two topics can be selected (main and alternative):

1.1 Population topics

  • Paediatric neurological disorders
  • Adult neurological disorders
  • Elderly
  • Musculoskeletal disorders
  • Sports and sports injury
  • Orthopedic problems – osteoarthritis and joint disorders
  • Normative studies
  • Others

1.2 Content topics

  • Coordination and motor control
  • Stability and fall risk
  • Imaging and anatomy
  • Modelling and simulation
  • Movement analysis methodology
  • Physical activity methodology
  • Foot and ankle
  • Upper extremity and trunk
  • Prosthetics and orthotics
  • Robotic and assistive devices
  • Motion analysis in low resource settings
  • Big data / collaborations across movement analysis laboratories

2. Presentation Method

A preferred presentation method should be selected during the submission from the following options:

  • Oral Presentation
  • Poster Presentation

Abstracts can be amended in the online submission system before the submission deadline of 9 April 2026.

After the submission deadline, all abstracts will be automatically considered to be fully submitted and will proceed to the peer review.

The number of submitted abstracts is limited to 2 abstracts as oral and 2 abstracts as poster, with a total maximum of 3 submissions as presenter

All abstracts will be reviewed by the ESMAC Scientific Committee, which will consider its formal aspects and content.

The Committee will decide which abstracts will be accepted and may reconsider the final presentation type and topic selection.

Accepted abstracts of registered authors will be made available to all meeting attendees in a special issue of the Gait & Posture Journal.

Rejected abstracts will not be displayed or published.

Please have your abstract checked for correct spelling, punctuation, grammar and formal structure.

Any changes in the abstract will not be allowed after the submission deadline of 9 April 2026.

The accepted abstract will be published in the Gait & Posture Journal as it was submitted.

ESMAC reserves the right to edit abstracts if necessary before their publication on the ESMAC Website or the Gait & Posture Journal.

All presenting authors will be notified of the evaluation results by 28 May 2026.

All presenting authors are obliged to register for the meeting by 17 June 2026.

Failure to register before this deadline will result in the withdrawal of your presentation from the programme and exclusion from the Abstract Book.

All presenting authors will be asked to declare a disclosure of their potential conflict of interest when submitting their abstract.

Without the declaration submitted, the abstract cannot be accepted.

3. Abstract Formatting

All abstracts must be written in English.

When submitting your abstract, consider and choose the appropriate scientific topic and the presentation method.

The abstract title is limited to 20 words and must be submitted using sentence case (e.g. This is the title of my abstract).

Up to 10 authors can be submitted for an abstract (including the presenting author).

The presenting author is selected first; other authors can be added only when the presenting author is submitted.

However, the author order can be changed if needed by swapping the names in the list of the authors.

The first name is always considered to be the main author.

The maximum abstract length is 450 words without references.

Please note each abstract must follow a mandatory structure:

  1. Introduction
  2. Research Question
  3. Methods
  4. Results
  5. Discussion
  6. References

Up to 1 picture/chart/table can be included within the abstract text.

(Please check the step-by-step picture upload guide in the Portal).

They must be saved in JPG.

Please contact the ESMAC 2026 Scientific Programme Department for any assistance.

Clinical case study

Abstract submission guidelines

 1. General Information & Deadlines

This session is allocated to clinical reasoning, triggered by clinical cases that are focused on a specific pathology or motor problem and/or focused on an uncommon clinically relevant assessment approach.

This clinical case session creates the opportunity to share interesting observations that illustrate clinically relevant findings and/or treatment outcomes, that may inspire the audience about new research pathways and that may trigger future clinical studies on larger samples.

These cases should include patient specific data, but should also be supported by a literature review, to ensure a framework of evidence based clinical reasoning.

1.1 Evaluation Criteria

  • Originality: To what extent does the clinical case represent a novel topic with respect to pathology, motor problem and/or assessment approach (technology/method/reporting)
  • Methods: To what extent the patient history, assessment techniques and motion data are well-described
  • Conclusions: Clarity of the conclusions with links to literature and clinical decision making
  • Relevance: To what extent does the clinical case lead to changes in specific aspects of movement analysis or clinical practice and may open up new pathways of clinical motion analysis and/or research

These special guidelines are foreseen to submit clinical case abstracts for this ‘Evidence Based Clinical Reasoning’ session.

Abstracts MUST be submitted electronically via the online submission system by the given deadline of 9 April 2026. Abstracts received via e-mail or received after the deadline will not be accepted and therefore will not be considered for the programme or publication.

The topic of the abstracts for clinical cases is automatically labeled as ‘clinical case’.

The presentation method for the clinical cases is automatically ORAL (one oral session will be planned during the conference).

Abstracts can be amended in the online submission system before the submission deadline of 9 April 2026. After the submission deadline, all abstracts will be automatically considered to be fully submitted and will proceed to the peer review.

The limit of submitted abstracts is 1 abstract per presenter.

All abstracts will be reviewed by the ESMAC Scientific Committee, which will consider its formal aspects and content.

Accepted abstracts of registered authors will be made available to all meeting attendees in a special issue of the Gait & Posture Journal. Rejected abstracts will not be displayed or published.

Please have your abstract checked for correct spelling, punctuation, grammar and formal structure. Any changes in the abstract will not be allowed after the submission deadline of 8 April 2025. The accepted abstract will be published in the Gait & Posture Journal as it was submitted. ESMAC reserves the right to edit abstracts if necessary before their publication on the ESMAC Website or the Gait & Posture Journal.
