Early Career Network
The ESMAC community established the “Early Career Network” (ECN) in 2022, to offer a (virtual) network for early career researchers and clinicians within the society. The ECN aims to connect ESMAC members pursuing an academic career, from those in their last year of Ph.D. until those who secured a permanent position.
The ECN has the goal to support, unite, and inspire early career academics. To unite, we organize a yearly in-person network event at the annual ESMAC conference. To support, the event will be followed by webinars throughout the year, centred on a relevant topic for early career researchers. To inspire, you can check out our website, contact us (ecn@esmac.org), or join our Slack channel!
To support collaborations, share information regarding funding opportunities and ensure our members are well equipped for grant application and job interviews, we have a (physical) platform to share all this information. This provides a low threshold to learn from those who wrote prestigious grants before you, or find peers who are also preparing for this academic job application. In addition, we aim to support those who are interested in the ESMAC society and conferences, for instance by being mentored while chairing a session or reviewing abstracts. Finally, we think the “early career” phase should be celebrated, and support an early career award as part of our Annual ESMAC meeting.
We are always looking for early career researchers who want to join our network, and warmly inviting anyone to join the ECN. ECN members can join and actively take part in different ECN workgroups (early career award, in-person event at the annual ESAMC meeting, webinars, job network…).
We are also always open to fresh ideas or new members for our ECN committee. If you have questions, suggestions or want to join our network: please email ecn@esmac.org!
We are looking forward at welcoming you into the ECN and onto the ECN platform!

How to get involved?
Are you in the last year of your Ph.D., a postdoc, or a starting group leader, or do you feel like an early career clinician, technician, or teacher? Then we welcome you into the ECN via our community platform! If you want to join our platform on Slack (earlycareerne-cwu8521.slack.com) just send us an email at ecn@esmac.org.
What are the requirements to join the ECN?
- Write an email to ecn@esmac.org and you will get an invitation link to Slack.
- You join the Slack platform follow the link and you will find a personal code immediately after entering your email-address in your mailbox to further access the platform.
- You update your profile with your picture, name, position, institution, and country
- You join the “ECN-participants” channel and fill in the excel sheet with your specific details and interest in the ECN. This information will help us organize targeted events as well as to connect with relevant peers.
Do I need an ESMAC membership to join ECN?
Up to the ESMAC conference 2023, the ECN group is free of charge. After the ESMAC conference 2023, you need an ESMAC (student) membership to join our webinars and activities.
Now you are ready to network with fellow ECN’ers! You find various channels covering different topics, for example, “ideas” where you can drop an idea for a webinar or seminar you would like us to cover. If you have any questions you can contact us either over Slack (people in the ECN organizing committee have an (ECN) after their name) or write us an email at ecn@esmac.org. If you are interested in joining our organizing committee, have problems signing up, or have suggestions you can also contact us!
