Early Career Network

The ESMAC community established the “Early Career Network” (ECN) in 2022, to offer a network for early career researchers and clinicians within the society. The ECN aims to connect ESMAC members pursuing an academic career, from those in their last year of Ph.D. those who secured a permanent position.

The ECN has the goal to support, unite, and inspire early career academics. To unite, we organize a yearly in-person network event at the annual ESMAC conference. To support, we host a series of webinars throughout the year, alternating between topics relevant to ECN members (organised by the ECN committee) and PhD students (organised by the PhD Chapter). In addition, we aim to support our members in taking up leadership roles, such as becoming a session chair or abstract reviewer.  To inspire, we founded the Early Career Award (Dr. Tom Shannon Award) that is now annually announced at the ESMAC meeting.

Additionally, we are excited to introduce a new initiative – the ECN Spring School – which will provide an interactive and skill-focused learning experience on key topics relevant to early career researchers.

To support collaborations, share information regarding funding opportunities and ensure our members are well equipped for grant application and job interviews, we have a (physical) platform to share all this information. This provides a low threshold to learn from those who wrote prestigious grants before you, or find peers who are also preparing for this academic job application.

We are always looking for early career researchers who want to join our network. ECN members are encouraged to become active and take part in our different ECN workgroups, including Dr. Tom Shannon Award, in-person event at the annual ESMAC meeting, webinars workgroups). If you have questions, suggestions or want to join our network: please email ecn@esmac.org!

We are looking forward at welcoming you into the ECN and onto the ECN platform!
