In Loving Memory of Prof. Maria Grazia Benedetti (1959–2024)
It is with profound sadness that we mourn the passing of Prof. Maria Grazia Benedetti, who left us in October 2024. An esteemed doctor in physical rehabilitation and a distinguished scientist in human movement analysis. Maria Grazia’s contributions have left an indelible mark on her profession and all who knew her. Her dedication to patients, colleagues, and students exemplified her unwavering commitment to improving healthcare through research and innovation.
She was a beloved mentor, an inspiring role model, and a source of encouragement to all who had the privilege to work alongside her. Prof. Maria Grazia Benedetti was a pioneer in the field of the human movement analysis in Italy. Over 30 years ago, she co-founded the Movement Analysis Laboratory at the Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute, in collaboration with engineers and orthopedic surgeons, an achievement that reflected her vision towards multidisciplinary teamwork.
This pioneering effort was perfectly aligned with the values and mission of ESMAC. Prof. Maria Grazia Benedetti was indeed one of the founding members who participated in officializing ESMAC as a scientific organization. We all remember her active participation and invaluable contributions to our annual conference. The ESMAC board and its members will forever cherish her remarkable achievements and enduring legacy. Maria Grazia’s spirit will continue to shine through the work of her colleagues, the knowledge she imparted to her students, and the friendships she cultivated throughout her life. May her memory inspire us all to pursue excellence with compassion, just as she did.
