ESMAC Charity Run

Route Descriptions

Join us for a scenic run (Points 1-13) or walk (Points 8–13) through Basel, starting and ending at the Petersplatz. We will take around 30–40 minutes. The run and walk are accompanied by representatives of the Local Organizing Committee and Basel Tourism.

Important to know is that you can donate without running or walking (but it will be less fun 😉 ) !

1. Start at Petersplatz (Picture 1) after a short warm-up.
2. Run down to the Rhine river, turn left, and follow the riverbank.
3. Go up the stairs and cross the Johanniterbrücke (Picture 2).
4. On the other side, take the stairs down to the river (left side) and follow the riverside path.
5. Just before the Kaserne (Picture 3), turn left, run around the square, and cross through the middle of the Kaserne back to the river.
6. Continue along the river until you reach the Mittlere Brücke.
7. Cross the Mittlere Brücke (Picture 4).
8. (Walk to the Mittlere Brücke). Turn left into the small road that goes upward.
9. Pass the Natural History Museum and continue through the Basel Cathedral (Münster) area (Picture 5 & 6). Stop at the viewpoint platform overlooking the Rhine (Picture 7).
10. Run back and follow the river path to the Wettsteinbrücke, which you cross on your left.
11. After crossing the bridge, turn left and run/walk along the riverbank back to the Mittlere Brücke (Picture 8).
12. Cross the Mittlere Brücke (Picture 4) and head towards the Schifflände.
13. Return to Petersplatz via the Marktplatz (Market Square), where you also will find the Town Hall (Picture 9)
14. Turn left, pass the University building again, and finish beneath the Royal Palace.

The walking route

This year, the ESMAC Board and the ESMAC 2025 Local Organisers in Basel have agreed to donate the proceeds from the Charity Run to the Pro UKBB Foundation. We are pleased to direct our targeted help through our ESMAC network to where it is needed most.

Children are at home in our hearts. We give everything for their health.

Health is a gift that cannot simply be given away. But a lot can be done for the well-being of sick children – and thus promote the healing process in the best possible way. The Pro UKBB Foundation supports medical treatment, nursing and therapeutic care by funding supplementary and supportive projects at the University Children’s Hospital Basel.
